Information on the Fire Danger Rating System
Burning is only permitted in accordance with the Open Air Burning By-law 2010-25.
It is your responsibility to comply with the by-law and the current fire rating.
Current Fire Rating
LOW HAZARD
The fire danger rating is now at Low. All day burning is now allowed in piles no larger than 8' in diameter. The fire must be at least 30' from buildings/structures and must be monitored at all times by a person 18 years or older. Larger fires may be set with the Fire Department's prior approval.

Low Hazard
Ignition of forest fuels will be difficult and spread potential is limited. No control problems.
All Day burning allowed of brush/clean wood with a size no greater than 8' in diameter and a pile height no greater than 5'. The fire must be a minimum of 50' from any structure or property line. The fire must be monitored at all times by an adult. The adult must have the means to put out the fire immediately if requested and cooled to touch.
Moderate Hazard
Grasses, dry branches will easily ignite. Spread to adjacent fuels would be slow. Control of fire may be difficult. Take normal precautions.
No Daytime Burning between 10am and 6pm. Between the hours of 6:01 pm and 9:59 am burning is allowed of brush/clean wood with a size no greater than 8' in diameter and a pile height no greater than 5'. The fire must be a minimum of 50' from any structure or property line. The fire must be monitored at all times by an adult. The adult must have the means to put out the fire immediately if requested and cooled to touch.
All day burning is allowed for cooking and warmth. Fires in a fire pit or ring no greater than 4' in diameter and height of 2'. the fire must be a minimum of 50' from any structure or property line. The fire must be monitored at all times by an adult. The adult must have the means to put out the fire immediately if requested and cooled to touch.
High Hazard
Fires for cooking will be allowed in the evening only. Most forest fuels will ignite easily and spread rapidly. Control would be difficult.
