Electors in the Municipality of Magnetawan will have the convenience of choosing to vote by internet, telephone or mail

There is no in person voting stations but electors can bring in their completed yellow return envelope which contains the signed declaration, and the completed ballot in the secrecy envelope. (Do not place your signed declaration in the secrecy envelope.) to the office Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm starting October 13^th or on election day Monday October 26^th  8:00 am to 8:00 pm.

MAG VOTES — Why Are We Asking You to Check the Voters’ List?

We know it can be frustrating to discover that your name or information is missing or incorrect on the Municipal Voters’ List.

Here’s an important thing to know:
The Municipality of Magnetawan does not compile the initial Voters’ List.

For the 2026 Municipal Election, the Voters’ List is prepared using information from the Permanent Register of Electors maintained by Elections Ontario. The Municipality receives the list and then works with electors to make additions and corrections where required.

That is exactly why we have been encouraging residents to CHECK THE LIST! 

Even if you have voted in Magnetawan before, own property here, or believe your information should already be correct, please take a moment to confirm that you are on the list and that your information is accurate.

If something isn't right, don't worry — Municipal staff are here to help you through the process of getting it corrected. After September 1, 2026, additions and changes to the Voters’ List are handled through the Municipal Clerk's Office.

Not sure if you are eligible?

As per the Municipal Elections Act, you are entitled to vote in the Municipality of Magnetawan if on voting day you: 

(a) reside in the Municipality  or are the owner or tenant of land there, or the spouse of such owner or tenant;

(b) are a Canadian citizen;

(c) are at least 18 years old; and

(d) are not prohibited from voting under subsection (3) or otherwise by law. 

Persons prohibited from voting:

(3)  1. A person who is serving a sentence of imprisonment in a penal or correctional institution.

2. A corporation.

3. A person acting as executor or trustee or in any other representative capacity. 

4. A person who was convicted of the corrupt practice described in subsection 90 (3), if voting day in the current election is less than five years after voting day in the election in respect of which he or she was convicted. 1996, c. 32, Sched., s. 17 (3); 2006, c. 9, Sched. H, s. 4.

HELPFUL TIPS!

If you choose to Vote by Mail - you cannot vote by Internet or Phone.  Once we receive your mail in ballot - your PIN will be deactivated.   Please ensure you give the post office plenty of time to deliver your ballot to us.   If your ballot is not received by 8:00 pm on Election Night, we cannot count it.   

If you are Voting by Internet: The voting website address is included in your Voting Information Letter. Only use this official voting website address by typing it directly, and exactly,  into the address bar, NOT the search engine bar (i.e., google, yahoo, bing) and do not include “http” at the start.   If you are using Internet Explorer, after you enter the address, press “enter” or “return” on your keyboard.   DO NOT use the magnifying glass.

If you are Voting by Telephone:  Using the speaker phone option (if you are in a private location) to make it easier to listen to the instructions in their entirety.  Make your selections and only press the # (number sign - hashtag) key when you are finished making all of your selections for each race.  Please make sure you wait to ensure that the system says “Goodbye” which confirms that you have successfully voted.

Note:  If you get interrupted while you are Voting by Internet and lose your connection - you can go back later to finish OR you can use the telephone to finish.   If you get interrupted while you are Voting by Telephone and have to hang up - you can go back later to finish OR you can use the internet to finish.    Electronic voting is interchangeable BUT you cannot change your vote once it is cast!  

You can determine if your Mail-in Ballot was received by going to the voting website and entering your PIN and Date of Birth prior to the election close at 8:00 pm.

If you attempt to vote both by mail and electronically (internet or telephone), only the ballot that arrives first will be counted.

Key Dates 

2022's election saw a participation rate of 31.7%.  

There were 3,689 eligible voters.  

573 votes were cast via internet/phone and 596 were cast via mail in ballot.

Of the 1,169 ballots received -  8 ballots were ‘Spoiled’ via internet/phone, and 6 ballots were ‘Rejected’ during the manual count of the mail in ballots.

Total Active Ballots 1,155
