Not sure if you are eligible?

As per the Municipal Elections Act, you are entitled to vote in the Municipality of Magnetawan if on voting day you: 

(a) reside in the Municipality  or are the owner or tenant of land there, or the spouse of such owner or tenant;

(b) are a Canadian citizen;

(c) are at least 18 years old; and

(d) are not prohibited from voting under subsection (3) or otherwise by law. 

Persons prohibited from voting:

(3)  1. A person who is serving a sentence of imprisonment in a penal or correctional institution.

2. A corporation.

3. A person acting as executor or trustee or in any other representative capacity. 

4. A person who was convicted of the corrupt practice described in subsection 90 (3), if voting day in the current election is less than five years after voting day in the election in respect of which he or she was convicted. 1996, c. 32, Sched., s. 17 (3); 2006, c. 9, Sched. H, s. 4.

Municipality of Magnetawan

2026 Municipal Election

For the offices of:

MAYOR one (1) to be elected

COUNCILLORS four (4) to be elected

Four Year Term of Office

To run for the position of Mayor, or Council, you must be:

• A Canadian citizen
• At least 18 years of age
• Reside in the Municipality of Magnetawan, or is an owner or tenant of land in the Municipality of Magnetawan, or the spouse of such a person
• Not prohibited from voting under any law

Nomination forms may be filed by candidates at the Municipal Office beginning Friday, May 1st, 2026 and on any day thereafter prior to Nomination Day, from Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and on Nomination Day, Friday, August 21, 2026 when nomination forms may be filed between the hours of 9:00 am and 2:00 pm.

Head of Council - $200.00, All other positions - $100.00

The filing fee is payable by cash, certified cheque or money order. Candidates must not spend or raise funds for their election campaign until their nomination form has been filed.

2022's election saw a participation rate of 31.7%.  

There were 3,689 eligible voters.  

573 votes were cast via internet/phone and 596 were cast via mail in ballot.

Of the 1,169 ballots received -  8 ballots were ‘Spoiled’ via internet/phone, and 6 ballots were ‘Rejected’ during the manual count of the mail in ballots.

Total Active Ballots 1,155
